NRWA Small System Electric Power Use Study
NRWA Small System Electric Use Study:
A paper was developed describing the current status of electric use billing practices by electric suppliers across the US and how these practices can be used by small systems to minimize their electric bills. As a part of this study, the New York Rural Water Association volunteered to conduct a pilot study of several of their members to test the suggestions in this paper and the results of this study are included in the paper.

The results of this study and especially the pilot program in New York suggest that rather startling savings can be achieved by many small systems at little or no cost by review of their electric billing history and simple operation adjustments. This conclusion was recently reinforced through the cooperation of the Alabama Rural Water Association by a case study of a small system (~230 customers) in which it appears that savings in the order of $12,000 or so a year are possible by simple pump scheduling.
